West Ham United snap up Bolton goalkeeper

West Ham United have completed the signing of Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen on a one-year contract with an option for a second year.

The Finland international, 37, played more than 500 times for the Trotters in his 15-year spell with the club and will join up again with former boss Sam Allardyce at Upton Park, who managed him for eight seasons.
He told West Ham’s official website: "I'm delighted to be joining West Ham United. After spending 15 years in Bolton it's a great new challenge and I'm really looking forward to it.
"Everything has happened really quickly. When the opportunity was offered to come to West Ham I didn't think twice and I just told my agent to sort it out as quickly as possible.
"I appreciate Bolton giving me permission to speak to West Ham before my contract was up and for the efforts the chairman made in trying to get me to stay.
"I would like to thank the fans for all their support over the years and I wish the players and, in particular, (manager) Owen Coyle all the best in gaining promotion at the first attempt.

Hammers weigh up Guti offer

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti could be set for a move to the Premier League after his agent revealed the ex-Spain international is in talks with West Ham.

Guti, 35, is a free agent after being released by Turkish side Besiktas and is reportedly set for a trial with West Ham and could travel with the side on their pre-season tour of Austria.

With Allardyce already bringing in goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen from his former side Bolton, the Hammers boss is now looking to bolster his midfield with the experienced Spaniard.

"West Ham will make a final decision before the season starts," Guti's agent, Barry O'Connor, was quoted as saying in the Sun.

Allardyce has a history of signing Madrid veterans, with Michel Salgado joining Blackburn from the Santiago Bernabeu, while Ivan Campo and Fernando Hierro both joined Allardyce during his time at Bolton.

He had been in talks with Guti over a move to Blackburn before he moved to Turkey in 2010.

Real Madrid legend Guti has warned West Ham United he wants assurances ahead of joining them for pre-season. The 35 year-old midfielder says he would be open to a move to West Ham, but does not want to be on trial with club, he wants a contract before pre-season. He tweeteed, "I will not join any team to do just the preseason, whether that be West Ham or any other team ..."

Yossi Benayoun has confirmed that he hasn't rejected any offer from a club that has approached him yet. West Ham, Maccabi Haifa and Ajax are all fighting for the midfielder's signature.

Yesterday, Jack Sullivan (David Sullivan's son), tweeted saying that we hope to sign a centre-midfielder by Wednesday and a striker within the next 10 days.

Free-agent Mohamed Diame has agreed terms with West Ham United. He will sign a 3 year contract, worth £7m. Diame, 25, has passed a cardiac medical and a normal medical and hopefully the signing will be announced next week. My understanding is that he is the player Jack Sullivan is referring to.

Blackburn Rovers stiker Yakubu is close to signing for West Ham, according to reports. His £1m release clause has been activated by us and we expect to conclude the signing within a week.

Juventus winger Elia is also close to signing for West Ham. Reports in Italy suggest that we have offered £7m for his services, which meets the asking price that Juventus are demanding for him. However, other reports suggest that Elia will join on a season long loan deal. Either way, it looks increasingly likely that Elia will become a West Ham player. I am hoping to confirm whether it is a loan or permanent deal.

West Ham have made an ambitious enquiry to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United. The Red Devils value Berbatov at £11m, however, we are only willing to offer up to £8m.

David Gold has confirmed that Robert Green turned down a 4 year deal to stay at West Ham .

According to sources in Italy, West Ham have also made a bid for Inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos, who is 19 years old. The fee is believed to be in the region of £8m.
